When reports emerged that Michael Vick signed a 6 year $100 million contract, it made history in more ways than one. Hit the links, and see the Biblical proportions Vick’s signing signifies.
Some quick thoughts about the Eagles signing Michael Vick to a 6 year, $100 million contract.
1. He’s the first NFL player EVER to receive two …. TWO NFL player contracts over $100 million each. When the Falcons he signed a 7 year $132 million contract.
2. Two years ago, he was in Leavenworth sitting in a prison cell, wondering if he’d ever be able to play football again.
Regardless of what people think of the Eagles or the type of contract that was given, this has to be one of the more amazing developments I have ever seen. One of things I’ve been very impressed with is Vick’s willingness and courage to mention God and his faith in several interviews.
Seeing him succeed on the football field and off the field reminds me that God – yes, God – can restore. You may have lost a car, a job, a home, a relationship or even your hope in happiness. But so long as you put God first, and live your life righteously, work hard and keep your faith, things can and will be restored.
Jeremiah 30:17 ESV /
For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!
Psalm 51:12 ESV /
Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Joel 2:25-26 ESV /
I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. “You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame.
I congratulate Michael Vick as a role model for African-American men everywhere. His ability to bounce back from utter humiliation and incredible debt to abundance and wealth is an amazing accomplishment — and a true blessing from God.
