The Black Man makes a point… It’s just not what it used to be. Peep his top 5 Biggie moments under the cut…
I’m talking about a place where I am not right now.
It’s just that when I was simply the Black Boy, I just knew, undoubtedly, that you could feel that energy. It was different. I could feel that difference wearing those First Down bubble jackets, Guess jeans and Timberland boots (well i had the fake boots back then, let’s move on). It was right there when I had the headphones on the school bus with the Sony Walkman. If you had one of those, then one of the girls would want to sit next to you.
I would have Philly’s Power 99 and they played any given Biggie song like it was a mixtape. I heard it all. From “One More Chance” to “Hypnotize,” “Victory” to “Juicy.”
It was different back then. Somehow, artists like Biggie made music that intertwined with the culture; the chilly air, the row homes, the busses and subways, even drug dealers and basketball. Rap music was around it all. And back then, Biggie was king.
These days, I hear dudes like Wocka Flocka (don’t even ask) and it makes me want to swim in chitlin juice. And I always say what I think a lot of us 80′s babies would say.
If BIG were alive, wouldn’t NONE of this mess be going on….
The Black Man’s Top 5 Biggie Moments
1. Biggie on Martin
Even my mother; a deliberately devout Christian woman had to chuckle at this show. I don’t even think she knew who he was…
On another note, was Martin NOT the BEST show of all time? I’m willing to debate this with anyone…
2. The First Time I Watched Hypnotize
You forget how forward this video was when it came out…
3. The Biggie Freestyle
“Who you gonna choose the whack MC?/ Or the FAT BLACK MC?” I don’t care what you think. I like that freestyle.
4. The Young Bul Biggie Freestyle.
This was hilarious…
5. Biggie at the Apollo
I remember watching this, and feeling jealous of everyone there. Must have been good times…
