This is actually big news. Congress has apparently been busy these days, first releasing that unemployment for everyone, and now passing an historic bill to cut federal sentences in crack cocaine cases. This is good news, right? Read on and make a decision…
5 grams of crack = 5 years in jail.
500 grams of cocaine gets you the same sentence.
Now take a guess and tell me which sentence usually affects black men. The disparity has been outrageous to say the least, and have negatively effected the lives of millions of African-American men.
Now, the 100-to-1 ratio is being reduced to 18-1. Which is still stupid, but it’s an improvement. Now you need to have 28 grams of crack for a mandatory five-year sentence.

Actually, I think they went about it backwards. Why not 5 yrs for fewer grams of cocaine. Then the jails could be filled with white folks for a change.
