For every crappy biopic and hater-covered rumor treat that looks to consume the great Oprah, there is a blessing. This time, it’s a prestigious honor that’s more important than what we think. Hit the links and read more…

A gala tribute to the five honorees will be taped at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington on December 5 and broadcast by CBS as a two-hour television special on December 28.

Winfrey’s reaction, according to The Washington Post — “Wow-zee!”

The talk show host, who will step down after 25 years to focus on launching her network, OWN, added: “This feels like an official American citizenship in a very exclusive club of artists and contributors to the nation in a very special way.”

David Rubenstein, the center’s chairman, explained the decision to include her: “For more than 25 years, Oprah Winfrey has established one of the most innovative careers in the entertainment world, with distinctive accomplishments in television and film.”
