Reverse Tea Party: Ben Jealous is up to Something + Jesse & Stern Defend LeBron

by TheBlackGuy on July 13, 2010

Hate it or hate it some more… that Tea Party has been making major political noise. So Ben Jealous, Pres & CEO of the NAACP decided to counter with his own movement.  He’s introducing “One Nation,” the latest grassroots coalition. Featuring 170 liberal and civil rights groups, organizers hope this new movement sticks to help the progressives “counter the Tea Party narrative,” and support Barack Obama. Who’s involved? Find out when you hit the links…

Also, there’s been an uproar over Cavaliers’ Owner Dan Gilbert and his temper tantrum of LeBron James’ recent departure. Guess who’s coming to the two time MVP’s defense? My man! Jesse Jackson. See what he and NBA Commissioner David Stern had to say – and do – about the recent events surrounding the NBA superstar…

The Tea Party has to be flattered as they now have imitators. “Having been confronted with the specter of the Tea Party . . . we felt it urgent to organize the majority of this country, which voted in 2008 and has gone back to the couch,” said Benjamin Jealous, president of the NAACP, one of the movement’s members. “We’ve been split off in different directions.”

Who are some of the groups involved? Word has it these organizations have stepped up:

1. The National Council of La Raza

2. The Service Employees International Union

3. The NAACP

4. The AFL-CIO

5. The United States Student Association

As its first major goal, One Nation is planning a march in Washington Oct. 2 that will push for progressive ideals including more government spending on job creation. The march will “demonstrate to Congress that these agenda items have support across multiple demographics,” said Jealous. (Source)

Good luck!!

Also…

Check out what my man Jesse Jackson had to say about the firestorm surrounding LeBron James. Jesse Jackson says the Cavs owner is comparing LeBron to a “runaway slave” and says it “personifies a slave master mentality.” Marc Lamont Hill, Professor at Columbia University also speaks 100 mph about the topic. What do you think?

They seem pretty adamant about this…

On the James firestorm, NBA Commissioner David Stern offered a series of comments during a press conference yesterday.

  • On LeBron James: “With respect to LeBron’s departure from Cleveland, a couple of things. One, he was certainly entitled to do that. I think he’s both a terrific player and a very good person. Had he asked my advice in advance, I might have suggested that he advise Cleveland at an earlier time than apparently he did that he was leaving, even without announcing where he was going, so we could have eliminated that. I would have advised him not to embark on what has been come known as ‘The Decision.’ I think that the advice that he received on this was poor. His performance was fine. His honesty and his integrity shine through. But this decision was ill conceived, badly produced and poorly executed. Those who were interested in it were given our opinion prior to its airing.”
  • On Dan Gilbert: “I think that remarks by Dan Gilbert, the owner of the Cavaliers, catalyzed as they may have been by hurt with respect to the manner and the fact for himself, his team, and particularly for the people of Cleveland, though understandable, were ill-advised and imprudent. I have notified Cleveland that they will be fined $100,000 for those remarks under my power as Commissioner.”

$100,000??!! Wow. Of course, 100 grand might not be anything to a billionaire like Dan Gilbert. But still, money talks and the Commish has spoken.

Thoughts?
