You saw it here earlier when we said Wyclef might run for the President of Haiti. Now it’s official. Jean spoke to Time Magazine confirming his bid… but he’s got work to do. Peep the process plus who he’s running against when you hit the links…
Plus, if you didn’t hear about this story, read on. A Haitian mother reunites with her daughter after the Haiti earthquake, alive and well.
Wyclef Jean spoke to Time Magazine confirming his bid for the Haitian Presidency.
“If not for the earthquake, I probably would have waited another 10 years before doing this,” Jean says. “The quake drove home to me that Haiti can’t wait another 10 years for us to bring it into the 21st century.” Jean sees no contradiction between his life as an artist and his ambitions as a politician. “If I can’t take five years out to serve my country as President,” he argues, “then everything I’ve been singing about, like equal rights, doesn’t mean anything.”

But he has major work to do. Whoever wins the Nov. 28 election will face the Herculean task of rebuilding from the Jan. 12 magnitude-7 earthquake that killed a government-estimated 300,000 people while managing billions in international reconstruction dollars amid feuding officials, families and an estimated 1.6 million earthquake homeless, all hungry — some more literally than others — for their share.
Scores of candidates are expected to compete for the presidency in the November contest. Among them is Jean’s uncle Raymond Joseph, who is Haiti’s ambassador in Washington.
Other likely candidates include former prime ministers, mayors and another popular Haitian musician, Michel “Sweet Micky” Martelly.
Good luck Wyclef!
LONDON — A mother broke down in tears as she was reunited with her baby girl six months after the earthquake that devastated Haiti.
“I had thought Landina was dead and when I heard she was alive I was in shock,” the eight-month-old infant’s mother, Marie Miracle Seignon, told Britain’s Channel 4 News. “This is very emotional for me.”
Doctors said the January earthquake that killed hundreds of thousands in the Caribbean island nation actually saved Landina’s life.
A great story…
